What is the Walk to Defeat ALSTM? The Walk to Defeat ALSTM is The ALS Association's national signature event. Each year, over 65,000 people including ALS patients, families, friends and corporate leaders join together to raise funds in support of The Association’s cutting-edge research and community-based patient services programs. Now in its ninth year, approximately 150 Walks will be held around the country in 2008.
We are proud to announce that in 2007 the Keith Worthington Chapter Walks raised over $634,000, proving to be our most successful Walk season to date. This year our goal is to raise even more money for continued programs and services on a local and national level and world-wide research.
We need your help to achieve this goal!
Why Walk? Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose his or her life from the disease.
The Walk to Defeat ALSTM offers an exciting, empowering opportunity for patients, family members, friends, companies and organizations across the country to raise significant funds to support comprehensive patient service programs and cutting-edge research. By participating in area Walks, both walkers and donors directly impact the lives of those affected by ALS as well as spread awareness for this devastating disease and the urgent need to find treatments and a cure. Walking is a great, visible way to tell others that you support the fight against ALS.
Count Me In! Anyone and everyone can become part of the fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease by joining a local Walk to Defeat ALSTM. All Walk routes are wheelchair accessible and Walk Day activities include something for all ages!
Joining a Walk to Defeat ALSTM is quick and easy! There is no fee to participate in a Walk. The only requirements to join are a completed Online Registration Form and enthusiasm to recruit friends, family members, coworkers and neighbors to join your team and begin raising donations for important programs, services and research. Upon completing your 2008 Online Registration Form, The ALS Association will even provide you with your very own “My Walk Center” webpage on which you can tell your personal story, recruit team members, solicit and track donations. |
